BACKGROUND
Names and identities! My friend Marianne Sofie Hother Nielsen is Sofie Hother among friends and family but at the authorities and in the general public she is Marianne Nielsen. Two different persons one would say! This is a series of four posters - one poster per name. The illustrations are based on both researched facts (statictics and enquiries) and general prejudices about the person behind the name. The project must be understood in a danish context as they to some extent are cultural depended.
MARIANNE
The statistics tells us that Marianne is a person around 55 year. She lives primary in Jutland, Denmark, and with a simple google search (at that time, 2007) we see that she is a rather masculine lady with short hair working by the authorities or at an union.
SOFIE
This time the statistics tells us that Sofie is a girl around fifteen. From a google search (at that time, 2007) we see that her royal name gives her a very sweet, light and princesslike aura. This girl is distinct. The world lies before her feet which she is ready to conquer with her sweetness.
HOTHER
Well, as the statistics tells us this man is rather old and rare. We know him best as Høder, the son of Odin, from the Nordic mythology who accidently kills Balder.
NIELSEN
This name is the most common last name in Denmark. It represents the average dane.
